I know every person out there is hoping 2021 brings new beginnings (quite literally) and it is only fair to have a faith in what’s coming next. People need a glimmer of hope to survive. But what if I tell you that 2020 has not been a disaster?
This year has been about learning to communicate our emotions outside our safe zone. Blog platforms have been the most frequently used platforms for influencers (compared to the lowest being YouTube). People have had more time for reading, digging deep into random subjects. The world stopped for a second to allow everyone to connect further than the physical limit. Relationships have started based on all-night conversations about each other’s passions rather than as a consequence of too many pornstar martinis. Just like that, toxic relationships finally ended as we had the time to look around us and notice that fighting over washing dishes comes from layers of unsaid words at the right time.
Some have lost jobs in which they have been unhappy for years and perhaps are now forced to finally try making that hobby a career. And whilst it felt like the end of the world, it will pay off in the years to come because my glimmer of hope is that a new generation of entrepreneurs is in the process of building a foundation for what will be a great future for our kids.
This year has been a turning point for dinosaur businesses clashing under pressure and a launching ramp for local businesses who took the spotlight when we realised that there is a sea of opportunities in their back yard.
From a mental health perspective, I can hand on heart say that this has been a difficult year. But in all honesty and at the risk of sounding cliché, there can’t be Sun without a little rain. This year has been all about difficult questions, adapting to new settings, and overcoming fear and pain. Amidst the chaos, all we had to rely on was ourselves and that was enough.
Cheers to a new year full of accomplishments, ladies! Before 2021 begins, we deserve to take a step back and pat ourselves on the back for every day of 2020 because we absolutely rocked it!
